Bridge to Terabithia
Producing drama of perfection is indeed a complex task. Yet, the movie, Bridge to Terabithia, delivers its promise. Involving a simple storyline, the movie takes on an adventure into the mind of two teenagers with two different personalities and expectations.
One can explore themes of friendship, love, support and vulnerability in this movie. While the bond between boy and a girl is highlighted by friendship, the eyes of two tell them a whole different story of unconditional love - never said but visually visible.
Family of both protagonists are the element of support, particularly shown by the close relationship of the boy with her little sister as well as parents of the girl who ,shall we say, are more of artistic and creative individuals.
Other core value of the movie - vulnerability- can be evident with the insecurity and compassion of the boy, unequivocally eerie imagination of the girl and emotional wall of boy's family.
The twist at the ending both serves as an example of the erratic nature of the life and adds new dimension- acceptance. Acceptance of the boy to live in life no more filled with his companion, acceptance to move on yet rejoice her name every time he hears, and acceptance to let others in his life.
The twist of the movie is painful yet necessary. Pain is what makes us stronger. Acceptance is what makes us superior. All in all, let pain pave the way to acceptance.
