The provided bar graph details why people chose to travel in the USA in 2009, while the pie chart demonstrates data on the primary issues Americans faced in the same year.
Overall, what stands out is that while the majority of people cited commuting to and from work as their reason for travelling, those who travelled to visit their friends/relatives were in the minority. It is also noteworthy that whereas the cost of travelling was the biggest concern, the least important problem was related to the space for pedestrians.
Looking at the bar chart first, almost half of the surveyors claimed they travelled because of their work. In contrast, personal reasons were the second top motive with 19%, followed by shopping at 16%, although only one-tenth individuals said they travelled to socialise or have fun. With mere 6%, however, visiting friends and families was the least common reason for travelling.
Turning to the pie chart, it is evident that fares worried the travelers the most as this issue topped the chart with 36%, with slight differences, the next three issues, including safety concerns (19%), aggressive drivers (17%) and highway congestion (14%) also caused a significant number of travellers to complain. Conversely, not many Americans were bothered by access to the public transport, nor space for pedestrians, as the former stood at 8% and the latter at 6%.
