The storage of personal information by large international companies has become a prominent issue in recent years. While there are certain benefits to this practice such as personalized recommendations on e-commerce platforms and better navigation tools, I firmly believe that the drawbacks far outweigh the advantages

One of the main advantages of companies holding personal data is the improved convenience it brings to individuals. For instance, platforms like Google and Amazon use data to personalize recommendations, making shopping, searching, and navigating faster and more efficient due to advanced algorithms and data-driven personalization. Similarly, social media platforms utilize user information to connect people with similar interests, enhancing online experiences, which these conveniences lead to save significant time and effort, benefiting users.

However, the disadvantages of personal data storage are far more concerning. Initially, the risk of data breaches poses a serious threat to individuals’ privacy and security. For example, cyberattacks on companies like Facebook have exposed sensitive information, leading to identity theft and financial fraud. This demonstrates how individuals can suffer from the misuse or loss of their data. Secondly, the lack of transparency in how companies use personal information raises ethical concerns owing to exploitation of date for profit driven purposes. Many organizations collect data without users' explicit consent and exploit it for profit, often through targeted advertising. This practice not only invades privacy but also manipulates consumer behavior.

Furthermore, the concentration of vast amounts of data in the hands of a few corporations creates an imbalance of power. That is,these companies can influence public opinion, elections, and societal trends, as evidenced by scandals like the misuse of data during political campaigns.Ultimately, this concentration of power poses a significant threat to democtratic processes and societal trust. Such issues highlight the potential for abuse and the erosion of trust in major organizations.

To conclude , while data storage by international companies offers certain conveniences, the risks to privacy, security, and ethics are far greater as well as Governments and regulatory bodies must implement stricter laws to protect individuals from the misuse of their personal information.
