The Blue Whale: The Ocean's Gentle Giant
The blue whale is the largest animal ever known to have lived on Earth. These magnificent creatures can grow up to 30 meters long and weigh as much as 200 tons. Despite their enormous size, blue whales feed almost exclusively on tiny shrimp-like animals called krill. A single blue whale can consume up to 4 tons of krill in a day.

Blue whales are found in all of the world’s oceans, except the Arctic. They migrate great distances between feeding grounds in polar waters and breeding grounds in tropical waters. Unfortunately, these gentle giants are endangered, primarily due to hunting in the early 20th century. Today, efforts are being made to protect them, including international whaling bans and conservation programs.
