Some people believe that young people should choose the jobs that they want, but
other people think they should be more realistic and think more about their future. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
There is a debate over the career path of young individuals, with some people saying it is preferable to pursue one’s ambition relating to work, while others argue that the practicality of the job should be the main priority, meaning people ought to choose wisely, considering the real-life challenges of the market. I believe that since one’s job plays an integral role in general life fulfillment, individuals should pursue a career that is aligned with their interests.
For many people, the main reason for having a job is to make money for a living, making them conclude that the financial aspect should be prioritized when choosing a career. In fact, some jobs, such as painting or singing, are hard to find lucrative for amateurs, so people interested in these fields often give up their dreams and try their luck in other sectors with a higher chance of success. Therefore, it is common to see parents disapprove of their children’s future career paths if the chosen field is not sustainable. According to them, one should consider the realities of today’s increasingly competitive market and the employment prospects of future jobs, encouraging young people to make strategic career choices rather than chasing after their unrealistic dreams.
In my opinion, however, a person’s ambitions and hobbies should be the main factors when it comes to finding a career path for various reasons. One of them is that many people work in the same sector all their lives, with only a few people changing their career paths later. This means that working in a field that is economically beneficial but one that does not align with a person’s interests might create a sense of boredom in one’s life. Conversely, having a desired job can give a person life fulfillment and a sense of purpose, even when there are some economic challenges. Furthermore, people with passion-driven jobs are more likely to work harder since they love what they are doing, potentially making a fortune from their dream careers rather than those who have lucrative jobs they do not like. For instance, J.K. Rowling, the author of the well-known book series, “Harry Potter,” was interested in writing stories from an early age, and, despite years of rejection and struggles, she achieved massive success due to her determination in the pursuit of her dreams. This goes to show that passion-driven jobs are better than the ones people choose because of financial aspects.
In conclusion, financial stability and career prospects are what cause many to pursue jobs they do not primarily want. However, I believe that success—and even life satisfaction—can be achieved in one’s desired career paths if the person does not stop pursuing them after facing economic challenges.
