"Thousand splendid suns" by Khaled Hosseini.
Not far away, just near Afghanistan, not a long time ago, just about 30 years ago. Peoples lives were just destroyed.
Value of women, girls were not even equal to those of animals. They were not respected, they were not valued. One of those girls was Maryam who has idolized his dad to be the best person in her life. But her "lovely and kind" dad didn't even allow her to come into his house. Maryam lived in a lonely house on the mountain with her mother, while his dad lived in a big mansion in the city with his others wives and children. He couldn't dare to accept his daughter as he was afraid to make his "family members" angry. But after Maryam's mother's death she lived with his father for a while, but not long after her dad, because of his wives, urged his daughter to marry someone who is 25 years older than herself. True to say that her married life was also not happy. But she has "tasted" happiness in her sister wife's children. The book can give a mental trauma to the reader, but it is worth reading. The book teaches you that surviving in the world is not easy!
