5+1 Habits from Marcus Aurelius

Credits go to The Daily Stoic

“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man.”

— Heraclitus

Everything is constantly changing, so even if you return to a seemingly identical situation, it will be different because both you and the circumstances around you have changed, just like the water in a river is always flowing and never the same.

Creative monopolists

Tolstoy opens Anna Karenina by observing: “All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” Business is the opposite. All happy companies are different: each one earns a monopoly by solving a unique problem. All failed companies are the same: they failed to escape competition.

Creative monopolists give customers more choices by adding entirely new categories of abundance to the world. Creative monopolies aren’t just good for the rest of society; they’re powerful engines for making it better.

Even the government knows this: that’s why one of its departments works hard to create monopolies (by granting patents to new inventions) even though another part hunts them down (by prosecuting antitrust cases). It’s possible to question whether anyone should really be awarded a legally enforceable monopoly simply for having been the first to think of something like a mobile software design. But it’s clear that something like Apple’s monopoly profits from designing, producing, and marketing the iPhone were the reward for creating greater abundance, not artificial scarcity: customers were happy to finally have the choice of paying high prices to get a smartphone that actually works.

Monopolies drive progress because the promise of years or even decades of monopoly profits provides a powerful incentive to innovate. Then monopolies can keep innovating because profits enable them to make the long-term plans and to finance the ambitious research projects that firms locked in competition can’t dream of.

— Peter Thiel

Makes sense

Recently, I found out about this app called Paisa.

Probably the best expense tracker app. Beautiful design, easy interface and great statistics.

Manage your finances, analyse how you are spending money. Be mindful.

About making decisions

As we grow up, people around us often give advice on our careers. While their intentions may be good, it's important to remember that advice should be taken as guidance, not a command.

Most of the time, "advisors" try to guide you within the confines of their own experiences. They can't offer advice beyond the limits of the life they've known.

You might notice how limited their perspective is, but don’t let that restrict you. If you follow every step they set for you, you might end up trapped within their frame.

You know your own capabilities better than anyone. Don’t let yourself be confined—especially when you are aware of it. Take everything as advice, not as a predetermined route. Examine, analyze, and decide for yourself.

You are the only one responsible for your decisions and actions. The people who guided you may or may not be with you at the end of your journey, but whatever happens, you will be the one to face it.

Seek advice from those who are knowledgeable.
Knowledge is a light in the darkness.

"Decisions, not conditions, determine what a man is."

If you are planning to visit the festival today, consider these:

1. The events starts around 8-9 pm (probably after sunset bcs it is hot) and road is already blocked.

2. If you have succesfully parked your car around Ichan qala, good luck on escaping. The pictures were taken 500-600 meters from the event (Looks like abandoned cars graveyard, lol).

3. Here in Khiva roads are too narrow, the largest we have is 8 lanes and the rest are 4. Probka is guaranteed.

4. This year Qovun sayli is in its peak and I expect there will be more people than ever. However, it is the best one so far, decorations are insanely beautiful and each section has unique design.

And, don't expect there will be less people around in the next days. So, don't loose the chance.
