Some people believe that technology has made man more sociable and others think that it has made us less sociable.

While some suggest that people are becoming more sociable due to modern technology, others share the view that the reverse is true. True, technology can facilitate new venues for socializing, but I believe it has greatly diminished people’s sociability.
On the one hand, a case can be made that technology makes people more sociable. This is because now there are greater opportunities to make friends online. While in the past people were limited to face-to-face interactions, they can now engage in online communication by joining communities on the Internet with like-minded people and making friends from different parts of the world. In this sense, people are offered more chances to stay socially active. Additionally, people can stay connected regardless of distance as online communication technologies eliminate physical boundaries. For instance, old people can keep in touch with their children even if they live in different cities, allowing them to socialize no matter the distance.
I, however, agree with those who believe people’s social lives have changed for the worse thanks to technology. Firstly, individuals now engage in fewer real-world interactions owing to easy access to online entertainment. They choose to spend their free time watching online content, playing video games, or browsing the internet, as these activities are more accessible compared to their traditional alternatives like playing sports outdoors or attending a public event. In effect, people have grown less sociable and lack the skills needed to navigate in-person interactions. The presence of information technologies in the workplace also limits people's ability to socialize. Colleagues now can exchange emails or have Zoom calls rather than converse in communal areas. Being deprived of chances to meet and talk in person, workers of today are becoming increasingly less social.
In conclusion, although technology allows people to lead a more dynamic social life in some respects, I reckon that its impact on their social engagement and skills is largely negative.
