Task 2

Some people think technology development decreases crime, while others believe it actually encourages crime. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
After several years of vigorous debate about whether technology assists in detecting crime instances or is counter-productive to solve criminal actions, this question remains highly contentious, provoking strongly held but divergent views among people. I, however, personally share the view that technology, for the most part, is of great assistance in monitoring illegal activities.
On the one hand, advances in technology can indeed help criminals commit some sorts of crimes. One of them is hacking, meaning that since the introduction of latest models of smart phones and laptops has resulted in a large number of crimes in recent years, allowing many criminals to readily break the operations of some banks while online transactions were carrying out. These instances have happened owing to the improvements made in technological devices’ fast speed and better function systems.
On the other hand, I believe that technological developments play an essential part in tracing criminal activities. Surveillance cameras are a good case in point, as they accomplish multiple functions simultaneously. That’s why security cameras are widely used these days almost everywhere, ranging from educational establishments, traditional work offices to shopping centers. The reason for this is that robbery and theft are common in these places, yet with the aid of surveillance cameras those illegal actions can be reduced.
Another reason why I am still in favor of using technologies to uncover crimes has to do with radars on roads. This is because these devices are of paramount importance and assistance in regulating traffic flows, speed limits as well as car crashes both on highways and roads. Thus, the presence of cameras on roads can encourage both drivers and pedestrians to abide by or respect the law. To take my capital city Tashkent as an example, the government installed radars almost in every corner of the city to make citizens follow traffic rules otherwise they will have to pay huge fines.
To conclude, even though arguments made for both sides are equally valid, I am still of the opinion that advanced technology aids in identifying various types of crimes – robbery, theft, and violating the traffic law.
