🌟 UzMedEn Erasmus+ CBHE Project: Transforming Medical Engineering Education in Uzbekistan

UzMedEn (01.01.2023 - 31.12.2025) is addressing a critical need in Uzbekistan: the shortage of skilled specialists in medical engineering. This Erasmus+ CBHE project focuses on developing and internationalizing Master’s degree programs and training courses in medical engineering, equipping students and professionals with knowledge of cutting-edge medical technologies.

💡 Why is this important?
With the growing demand for skilled medical engineers to handle the installation, maintenance, and management of medical devices, the project aims to create innovative curricula aligned with EU best practices and global market standards.

🎯 Key Objectives of UzMedEn

🔘 Develop and accredit a new ECTS-based Master’s program in medical engineering.
🔘 Launch 12 new courses for the Master’s program and 4 specialized training programs.
🔘 Establish 7 student labs and 3 Regional Training Centers equipped with advanced medical engineering tools.
🔘 Create a MOOC platform to share training materials.
🔘 Form a Medical Engineers Society to promote knowledge-sharing and professional development.
🔘 Train over 80 Master’s students annually and provide practical skills training to 200+ technicians and unemployed individuals.
🔘 Promote inclusivity by engaging women, migrants, and economically disadvantaged groups in training opportunities.

Milestones Achieved

✔️ A pilot Master’s program is underway at Andijan State Medical Institute (AndMI), Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent (TTPU), and Bukhara Engineering-Technological Institute (BETI).
✔️ Laboratories at 4 Uzbek universities are equipped with specialized tools based on analyses of regional hospitals and partner HEIs.
✔️ Training centers were established at AndMI, TTPU, and BETI.

The project involved higher education institutions in Uzbekistan, such as the Tashkent University of Information Technologies, Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent, Andijan State Medical Institute, Bukhara Engineering-Technological Institute, Bukhara State Medical Institute, Yeoju Technical Institute, and Alfraganus University.

🌟 DECIDE Erasmus+ CBHE Project: Promoting Inclusion in Central Asia

The DECIDE Erasmus+ CBHE Project made a lasting impact by promoting the rights of individuals with disabilities in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan. Running from November 15, 2018, to November 15, 2022, it addressed critical barriers to education and societal participation, fostering inclusivity and regional collaboration.

💡 Why is this important?
DECIDE tackled discrimination by raising awareness and promoting inclusion in line with the Bologna Process and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. It empowered universities, policymakers, and NGOs to better support individuals with special needs and strengthened regional cooperation for inclusive education.

🎯 Key Features of DECIDE

🔘 Access Liaison Officer Role: Established in partner institutions to advocate for disability access.
🔘 National Special Needs Awareness Days: Organized to raise public awareness through collaboration with key stakeholders.
🔘 Curriculum Development: Created Introductory and Advanced Modules to train educators, policymakers, and NGO staff, ensuring systemic improvements in inclusion.
🔘 Regional Collaboration: Fostered joint initiatives and sharing of best practices across Central Asia.

The project involved higher education institutions in Uzbekistan, such as the Samarkand Institute of Economics and Service (SIES), Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT), and Karakalpak State University (KKSU), reflecting a strong commitment to inclusive education in the region.

With a budget of €991,106, DECIDE promoted inclusive education, empowered individuals with special needs, and created a foundation for more equitable systems.

On January 21, 2025, we hosted an Erasmus+ seminar at Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies, bringing together HEIs from Navoi and Bukhara! This event introduced Erasmus+ opportunities and guided participants - especially newcomers - on developing strong CBHE project proposals. 🎓

Highlights of the Day:

🔹 Opening remarks by Prof. Bakhtiyor Mardonov, Rector of Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies, who welcomed everyone with enthusiasm.
🔹 Key presentations by our speakers: Bonu Abdusalomova and Makhmudjon Utkurov from the National Erasmus+ Office, Zumrad Usmanova from SamIES, and experts - Iroda Tursunova and Nodira Rakhimova from Navoi State University.
🔹 The presentation of two outstanding CBHE projects - EMINReM and RUECVET, presented by Iroda Tursunova and Nodira Rakhimova, gave the participants a real impression of the successes of Erasmus+.

The day ended with certificates and souvenirs, marking another step toward impactful Erasmus+ collaborations! 🚀
