The table and pie charts both compare the years 2017 and 2018, outlining the sources of police budget and its distribution.
Evidently, the total amount of funding the police received trended upwards throughout, with the money coming from local taxes accounting for a pronounced surge. Though the national government showed relatively minimal growth, it remained as the main source in both years. In addition, albeit having a decline, the highest percentage of this budget was allocated to salaries as opposed to technology that had the lowest share.
The total police budget followed an upward trajectory, rising from 304.7 to 318.6 million pounds between 2017 and 2018. Much of this increase was the result of a noted climb in the figure for local taxes, which showed a positive change of just above 10 million pounds from approximately 91 to 102 million. However, national government contributed the most to the police budget with the figures representing 175.5m and 177.8m in 2017 and 2018, respectively, an ascent of nearly 3m. Other sources, such as grants, were responsible for the lowest number hovering around 38m in both years.
This budget was distributed mainly to 3 sectors. Salaries of officers and staff made up the highest share in both years, though declining from 75% in 2017 to 69% in 2018. This drop was caused by a rise in the figure for technology (from 8% to 14%), while the allocation to buildings and transport remained steady at 17%.
