Is “Speed Reading” real? I think not that real, there are lots of courses and books which claim to teach how to read super quickly with the help of secret techniques.
Based on my experience, I can tell that you can improve reading speed only by reading consistently. If you find IELTS reading too difficult, you should learn 10 new words per day.
Maintain these two habits for 30 days, you feel change in your Reading skill, continue for another 30 days, you show progress. If you can keep up doing these habits for another 60 days, you will join the elite group who scores 8+ in Reading section.
Remember, You can read anything, it doesn’t have to be academic articles. Read self-development books and you become much better person too 😄.
To start with: let’s all measure your current reading speed.
☑️Take one book or article:
⏰ Set 1:00 limit
📖Read at normal speed
then count all words including (a, an, the, on, at...).
Result: 150WPM (words per minute)
Don’t rush, read at very normal speed.
Those who join the challenge, do this test again after one month and you likely notice the difference in both speed and understanding of the text.
I will share my reading speed soon and look forward to yours. You can share it in discussion area of my @IELTS_Journey channel.
