Some children spend hours every day on their smartphones. Why is this the case? Do you think this is a positive or a negative development?
Children are lately spending hours of their daily time using their smartphones. I believe this happens because of the interconnectedness of the modern world and parents’ inability to monitor children’s routine. As for the impact of this tendency, it is clearly negative as children often develop addiction to these gadgets and lead an unhealthy lifestyle.
Phones were initially used for calls and texts, but smartphones are multifunctional and are now integral parts of our lives. Even for children, it may be challenging to be connected to the world without a device, especially when it comes to educational responsibilities. However, phone usage does not occur only because of how dependent children are, but also because of no limits placed by parents. In other words, children in certain families are not monitored well enough, meaning they overuse their phones because of parental neglect.
With regard to the impact of this, there are obviously a number of undesirable outcomes. Mainly, children tend to become overly reliant on phones, spending a bigger part of their day using this device. Health-wise, this is quite detrimental since any addiction to technology is usually associated with a sedentary lifestyle. Aside from physical factors, mental health can be damaged as well. For instance, a child playing violent games on a smartphone for a long time can develop aggressive behavior, leading to isolation and antisocial acts. These are the most obvious consequences of smartphone overuse.
In conclusion, children are mostly overusing their smartphones, which happens due to factors such as technology’s integration and parental irresponsibility. The impact of this development is quite unhealthy, as the examples above suggest.
