🎉 Welcome to UPenn, Ruhshona!
A graduate of a Navoi public school, Ruhshona Sobirova will pursue Economics at UPenn, a prestigious Ivy League university, where she received an impressive $370K scholarship.
📚Ruhshona graduated from Freshman's March Admissions Program 2024, writing more than 27,000 words of reflections and receiving detailed feedback and guidance from Dr. Lyusyena, Valera, Sanjar, and Sega.
Under Dr. Lyusyena’s mentorship, Ruhshona also produced a 15-page economics paper, titled “The Economic and Sociocultural Impact of Labor Migration and Remittances: The Case of Uzbekistan.”
She founded the Econovation project, interned at a bank, and assisted with the Ibrat Camp, a free program organized by the Youth Agency and led by Freshman Academy for the past two years.
🤝During and after the Admissions Program, Ruhshona received guidance from Asqar, a UC Berkeley student and Freshman alumnus from Kazakhstan, whose advice and meetings were instrumental.
Reflecting on her journey, Ruhshona writes:
“During the Admissions Program, we delved into readings that ranged from fundamental literature to philosophy. Engaging with these texts not only strengthened my critical reading and writing skills but also prepared me for the academic rigor of an Ivy League education.
🫂Beyond academics, the program helped me build lifelong friendships with incredible people who shared my passion for poetry and literature.
With the continuous support of the entire Freshman Team and Asqar, I was able to effectively communicate my story and passion to the admissions committee.
If I had to sum up my experience in one sentence, it would be this: “With Freshman, you will never walk alone - because here, you find not just mentors, but a family."
🤞Our team wishes Ruhshona the best of luck in her studies and passion for economic policy-making in Uzbekistan and Central Asia. We are looking forward to her future contributions to her community and nation.
