I have become addicted to traveling…

As news websites have become widespread, the demand for traditional newspapers has declined to almost zero, which raises the question: Do we need printed paper newspapers? Many people see no need for printing newspapers. I personally think they are not only unnecessary but also environmentally unfriendly.

The reason why I believe conventional newspapers are no longer necessary is that the printing process requires financial resources, and they are slow to deliver news. The resources include the costs for the workforce, technology, and raw materials. While news websites are serving the public online for free, nobody is likely to buy newspapers from the newsagent’s. Besides, since the steps, ranging from printing newspapers to delivering them to readers, take time, they can be concluded far slower in comparison to the internet.

Moreover, using the medium which requires the logging of trees when an eco-friendly alternative – the internet – exists is irresponsible. In other words, the production of paper for newspapers contributes to deforestation, whereas humanity is concerned about global warming and animal extinction, both of which are partly attributed to the mass cutting of trees. Replacing newspapers with online news platforms will prevent deforestation to some extent.

In conclusion, the use of newspapers as a medium for spreading news should stop, and the internet must be used instead. This replacement would require less financing, less time, and decrease the damage done to the environment, in my opinion.

The bar graph gives information about the changes in the yearly production of rice in four different countries labelled A, B, C, and D in three different years, namely 1995, 2005, and 2015. Units are measured in million tons. Overall, rice production per annum saw an upward trend in all countries except for Country C, where the trend remained unchanged. Notably, Country A and Country B were leading producers of the crop, with the constant dominance of the former.

Rice production increased in most of countries. The figure for Country A – a leading country in terms of cultivating the crop – showed a gradual growth, rising from roughly 35 million tons to 45 million tons after two decades. With Country B, the second largest producer of rice in the chart, the production figure rose from about 37 million tons in 1995 to approximately 42 million tons in 2015, with a peak of around 46 million tons in 2005. In comparison, although there was an increase in Country D, the increase was relatively small, and the production stayed well below 5 million tons.

By contrast, the annual amount of rice produced in Country C remained at around 5 million tons over the period despite a short-lived rise in 2005.
