During the Sustainable Development Week Summit in Abu Dhabi, President of Uzbekistan H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev:
✅ Emphasized the importance of transitioning to sustainable development, focusing on a green economy and regional interconnectedness for global security;
✅ Declared 2025 as the Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy in Uzbekistan, highlighting the country’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and implementing green technologies;
✅ Announced plans to increase the share of renewable energy sources to 54% by 2030, with $20 billion invested in the energy sector over the past five years, and the construction of 14 solar and wind power plants;
✅ Stressed the significance of regional cooperation, particularly with the UAE, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan, for the development of green energy and energy interconnection, including plans for exporting green energy to Europe;
✅ Highlighted Uzbekistan’s vast potential for solar, wind, and hydro energy, and expressed readiness to partner with foreign investors for the production of green hydrogen and other sustainable energy projects in Central Asia;
✅ Called for active scientific cooperation and the establishment of an International Research Network on land degradation and desertification, involving global research centers and experts;
✅ Noted the significant progress in Uzbekistan's efforts to introduce resource-saving technologies in agriculture, with plans for full implementation of water-saving technologies in the sector;
✅ Announced a national goal to green at least 30% of urban areas under the “Yashil Makon” program, alongside initiatives to improve environmental sustainability in rural areas;
✅ Underlined Uzbekistan’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030, with the implementation of national systems for monitoring emissions and emissions trading schemes;
✅ Proposed the establishment of a regional hub for implementing water-saving technologies and the creation of a genetic resource bank for plants as part of efforts to combat climate change in the region.
