There is a view that since housing is fundamental need, governments should take responsibility to provide free accommodations for its who can not afford it. While some support this proposal, I strongly oppose it.

On the one hand, free housing can bring several benefits. Key of them would be better learning environment. Suffering from homelessness distructs children from school lessons, leading to misunderstanding a theme. Children provided with house focus on their education instead of financial struggles. Another one can be related to decrease in the number of crimes. Poor people commit a crime to find money in order to afford house. Stable housing lowers desperation and reduces such crimes.

Despite the benefits of free housing, I still remain disagreed with this statement for two main reasons outlined below. One of them can be financial burden on government. Providing free housing can be extremely expensive and may lead to increases in taxes or diverting funds from other crucial sectors like healthcare and education. As a result, this may generally affect the quality of healthcare and education. Another one can be moral hazard. Some individuals might misuse the system, claiming they are not able to afford housing when they actually can. This may lead to waste of money for governments.

To conclude, while free housing may bring some benefits, I remain convinced that the negative effects of it is more significant in comparison.
