Topic 15: favorite food at a traditional festival

📝 Cue Card

Describe your favorite food you eat at a traditional festival or at a special event

You should say:
- 🍲 what the food is
- 🎉 why people eat it at special events
- 🍳 how people prepare this food
- ❤️ why you like this food so much

Sample Answer

One of my favorite foods that I enjoy at traditional festivals is biryani, a popular dish in South Asian cuisine, especially during celebrations like weddings, Eid, and other family gatherings. Biryani is a flavorful rice dish cooked with aromatic spices, marinated meat, and sometimes even vegetables, making it a rich and hearty meal.

Biryani is often served at special events because it represents hospitality, warmth, and celebration in many South Asian cultures. It’s not an everyday dish; it’s something special that brings people together and adds a sense of festivity to the occasion. The complex flavors and elaborate preparation make it an ideal choice for marking important moments.

The preparation of biryani is a meticulous process. First, the meat, often chicken or mutton, is marinated with yogurt and spices like cumin, coriander, and garam masala. The rice is partially cooked separately, and then layers of rice and marinated meat are placed in a large pot, topped with fried onions, saffron, and fresh herbs. It’s then cooked slowly over a low flame, allowing the flavors to blend beautifully.

I love biryani because of its rich, layered taste and the way it brings back memories of joyful gatherings with family and friends. The aroma alone is enough to make my mouth water. Every bite is a mix of spices, tender meat, and fluffy rice, and I always look forward to having it at special occasions. For me, biryani is more than just food; it’s a reminder of good times and the people I cherish.

Vocabulary

1. Flavorful – 🌶 full of taste; rich in flavor.

Topic 46: New low

Cue Card:
Describe a new law you would like to introduce in your country.
You should say:
- 📜 what law it is, what changes it brings
- 🌍 whether it will be popular
- 💡 how you came up with the new law
- 😊 how you feel about it

Sample Answer:

If I could introduce a new law in my country, it would be a "Green Incentive Law". This law would focus on encouraging people to adopt environmentally friendly habits by offering incentives, such as tax deductions for using solar panels or discounts for electric car owners. The main aim is to promote sustainable living and reduce pollution.

This law would bring significant changes by making eco-friendly choices more affordable and attractive for people. By providing rewards for actions like recycling, using renewable energy, and conserving water, this law would help raise awareness about environmental issues and reduce our carbon footprint.

I believe this law would be quite popular, especially among younger generations who are increasingly concerned about climate change. However, some people might resist at first, particularly if they feel it could impact their finances. But overall, I think most people would appreciate the benefits it brings to the environment.

I came up with this idea after reading about how other countries use incentives to promote green practices. Seeing the positive impact of these initiatives inspired me to think about how similar strategies could work in my country. I feel hopeful and enthusiastic about this law because I believe it would create a positive impact on our environment and improve the quality of life for future generations.

Topic 44: Thing you want to replace

Cue Card:
Describe something that you own and want to replace.
You should say:
- 🔧 what it is
- 🤔 why you want to replace it
- 💸 what you need to be able to replace it

Sample Answer:

One item I own that I would like to replace is my laptop. It’s a few years old now, and although it has served me well, it has started to slow down significantly. I use it for a lot of tasks, including work, studying, and entertainment, so having a reliable laptop is essential for me.

The main reason I want to replace it is because of its performance issues. The laptop takes a long time to start up, and it often freezes when I’m running multiple applications. This can be quite frustrating, especially when I’m trying to meet deadlines or attend online classes. Additionally, the battery life has worsened, and I now have to keep it plugged in most of the time, which is inconvenient.

To replace it, I need to save up a bit more money, as high-performance laptops can be quite expensive. I’m also researching different brands and models to find one that fits my needs perfectly. Ideally, I’d like a laptop with a faster processor, more storage, and a longer battery life. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get a new one within the next few months.

11. 💵 Expensive – costing a lot of money
12. 🕵️ Researching – investigating or studying to find information
13. 💾 Storage – the space available for saving data on a computer
14. 🚀 Processor – the part of a computer that carries out tasks and operations

You should say:

On the day of the event, I left my house early, thinking I had enough time to get there. However, I underestimated the morning traffic, especially as it was a weekend with many people heading out. To make matters worse, there was road construction along the route, which slowed everything down. Despite my efforts to find a quicker way, I arrived almost 30 minutes late.

I felt really guilty and upset because I missed the beginning of the ceremony, which was an important moment for Eshmat.
