📝 TASK 2: Despite better education, some adults are unable to write and read.
What are the disadvantages people are having?
What should the governments do to avoid this?
Illiteracy among some adults has become a widespread phenomenon, despite high-quality education. This case may bring several disadvantages further in adult’s life – limited employment opportunities and difficulty in parenting. However, having invested money in adult literacy programs and providing access to technology, this problem can be tackled by the government.
Finding a proper job for some adults, without being equipped with simple yet essential skills such as writing or reading, may become demanding. Many employers demand a basic level of literacy skills even for entry-level jobs, which is quite fair. As a result of not being able to find a job, adults will have no choice other than working for low-wage and choosing unskilled labor, if their fortune plays its role. This in turn, perpetuates cycles of poverty.
Another disadvantage has to do with parenting. Parents who have low literacy skills might find it hard to support their children’s education. Helping with homework, reading to children or engaging in educational activities are beyond the capabilities of the illiterate parents. This has a negative impact on children’s academic activeness and performance, as well as, possibly, on future endeavors.
Howsoever big the problem is, it can be eliminated by the government. One effective course of action is developing adult literacy programs and schemes. Government should allocate funding to expand literacy programs of a particular kind, making them both, affordable and accessible as well. Making technology widely-available among adults is an additional solution to this problem. In doing so, there will be a chance for adults to use technology for learning purposes. Online web-sites – Learn dot com and Lessons dot com – are bright examples of useful piece of learning tools.
In conclusion, illiteracy among adults coupled with some disadvantages they bring may be eliminated by the government by providing sufficient educational programs and up-do-date technology.
