The differences between college applications to the US and to S.Korea. 😦

1. the US 🇺🇸
- You can apply to unis with one platform (either CommonApp or Scoir)
- You can get application fee waivers ($0 instead of $70-90 per school)
- Early Application: November; Regular App: January
- Various essays: common app essay, supplemental essays.
- Holistic review (grades, activities, essays, recommendations)
- majority test-optional, strongly recommended to choose between SAT/ACT
- Often optional/invite-only interviews. usually only for top schools.

2. S.Korea 🇰🇷
- Most universities require separate applications via their own websites (if you want to apply to many unis, you have to create multiple accounts for each uni)
- Fixed applications fees (60,000 - 150,000 won/ $50 - $110)
- Spring Application: September-October; Fall Application: March-April
- (Mainly) Minimal essay requirements, mostly mostly focused on academic goals/achievements
- Strong focus on academic performance and standardized test scores (typical asian stuff, lol)
- Letters are rarely required; if needed, they're usually brief confirmations rather than detailed character assessments
- Most unis require standardized tests (SAT/ACT/IB/A-levels) to win full-tuition/full-ride scholarships
- Interviews are more common requirement

There you have it! 🥂
