The bar chart gives information about the levels of water in reservoirs of six Australian cities in October 2009 and October 2010.

The bar graph compares the proportion of water levels in six different reservoirs in Australia between October 2009 and October 2010. Overall, while the percentage of water levels in the reservoirs of Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Canberra increased, the opposite trend was observed in Darwin and Brisbane, with the latter remaining relatively unchanged over the period. Notably, the figures for Sydney and Canberra were higher than those of the other cities in both years, whereas Melbourne had the lowest levels throughout the period.

Starting at 74%, the water level in Canberra rose significantly to just under 100% in October 2010, making it the city with the highest water levels among the six by the end of the period. Similarly, Sydney also showed an upward trend, beginning with almost the same percentage as Canberra (74%) and increasing slightly to just over 80% in the final year, ranking as the second highest figure. Perth and Melbourne also experienced growth. The water levels in these cities were 40% and 25%, respectively, in the first year, but they rose sharply to 61% and just under 40% by October 2010, with Melbourne’s final figure matching Perth’s initial water level.

In contrast, Darwin experienced a noticeable decline. Starting at 45% in October 2009, its water levels dropped to 38% by October 2010. Meanwhile, Brisbane’s water levels remained stable at 55% throughout the period.

Some people believe that hard work and determination are key factors for success, while others argue that money and personal appearance are more important.

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

There is an ongoing debate over the key factors that lead to success, with some arguing that it requires endurance and persistence, while others believe that wealth and physical appearance are major contributors. In my opinion, although hard work and determination were crucial in the past, nowadays wealth and personal appearance play a more significant role in achieving success.

Perseverance and dedication have long been considered essential for success. not only does hard work help individuals develop a variety of skills and problem-solving abilities but also fosters long-term growth, leading to sustained success even without initial resources. The more people commit to their work with dedication, the better their chances of achieving their goals. There is even a popular saying, "Consistency is the key," which emphasizes the importance of continuous effort. For example, Elon Musk, a well-known entrepreneur, faced numerous setbacks while establishing SpaceX and Tesla. However, through resilience and determination, he managed to overcome these challenges and achieve remarkable success.

On the other hand, in today’s fast-paced, image-driven society, success is often more closely linked to factors such as wealth and appearance. Financial resources and physical attractiveness can open doors more quickly than hard work alone. The rise of the internet and social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram has created opportunities for individuals to gain popularity with minimal effort, primarily due to their appealing appearance. For instance, many social media influencers attract millions of followers simply because of their looks, leading to lucrative brand deals and fame. Moreover, wealthy individuals have greater access to high-quality education, extensive networking opportunities, and investment prospects, all of which accelerate their path to success. Influencers and reality TV stars often gain fame and fortune due to their lifestyle and appearance rather than specific skills or hard work.

In conclusion, while hard work and determination were once seen as the primary drivers of success, I believe that in the modern world, wealth and physical appearance have become far more influential in achieving prosperity.

The two maps show the expected transformation of Islip town. Overall, the town centre is predicted to experience major changes in its layout to become a more urbanized and residential downtown, offering additional facilities to its population. These alterations, however, will come at the cost of the countryside and some shops.

In its current form, Islip town centre consists mainly of a main road which runs from west to east, with shops on both sides of it. There are two housing areas, one in the southern part of the town and another in the centre, while a park is located on the eastern side. A school can be found in the south-west corner. The surrounding areas mainly consist of open countryside, giving the town a less developed and more rural appearence.

In the planned development, The Islip city centre will undergo significant alterations. The main road will be converted into a pedestrian-only area, with a dual carriageway built around the town centre to deal with the traffic. Several new facililties will be introduced, including a shopping centre, a bus station, and a car park, all of which will be located to the north of the pedestrian area. The park will be reduced in size, and additional housing will be constructed to the southeast. These modifications indicate that the town is set to become a more developed and service-oriented area, with improved infrastructure and residential expansion.
