Task 2
There is a view that shops should be prohibited from selling foods and beverages that have been scientifically shown to harm public health.
I completely agree with this suggestion, as such a ban would protect consumers and encourage healthier eating habits. One key reason why I support this idea is that banning harmful products would significantly protect public health. Many
processed foods and sugary drinks contribute to serious health problems,
such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. If these products remain
widely available, people, especially children and
low-income families, may continue consuming them simply
due to easy access and
aggressive marketing. Therefore, removing these options from shops would reduce consumption rates and help prevent the spread of
lifestyle-related illnesses. In addition, another significant point is that banning unhealthy products would encourage both consumers and producers to
shift towards healthier alternatives. When harmful products are no longer on the shelves, people are more likely to choose
nutritious foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Furthermore, food companies would have a strong incentive to reformulate their products to meet higher health standards in order to stay competitive in the market.A final argument is that governments have a duty to protect citizens from
preventable harm. Just as authorities regulate dangerous products like tobacco and alcohol, they should also
intervene when food and drink items
pose a proven risk to health. By implementing strict regulations on what can be sold, governments can demonstrate that public well-being is
a top priority. In conclusion, banning the sale of scientifically proven harmful foods and beverages would
promote public health,
lead to better consumer choices, and fulfill the government's responsibility to protect its citizens.
Therefore, I am in full agreement with the proposal that such products should be prohibited from being sold in shops.
