Репост из: Books I’ve read in 2025
Just finished Kafka’s letter to his father.
Although the letter is some 60 pages long, it took me 2 days to finish - not because I didn’t have time but because of the emotional burden it inflicted on me. It was a heavy read.
Here are some of the most lamenting passages from the letter:
I should have been happy to have you as a friend, as a boss, an uncle, a grandfather, even (though rather more hesitantly) as a father-in-law. Only as a father you have been too strong for me, particularly since my brothers died when they were small and my sisters came along only much later, so that I alone had to bear the brunt of it—and for that I was much too weak.
———————————————————
Sometimes I imagine the map of the world spread out and you stretched diagonally across it. And I feel as if I could consider living in only those regions that either are not covered by you or are not within your reach.
