Multi-Level Top (CEFR C2)

One memorable moment when I forgave someone was during my final year of school. I had a close friend who I used to study with regularly. We often prepared for exams together, shared notes, and helped each other. However, during one of the important tests, I noticed that he had taken one of my handwritten summaries without asking and gave it to another classmate who I wasn’t on good terms with. When I found out, I felt betrayed because I had trusted him and considered him a loyal friend.
At first, I was very upset and stopped speaking to him. I felt like he didn’t value our friendship, and I even questioned if he deserved my trust in the first place. A few days later, he came up to me and sincerely apologized. He explained that he didn’t mean to hurt me and that he thought sharing the notes would be helpful. I could tell he regretted his decision.
After thinking it over, I decided to forgive him. I realized that holding on to anger wasn’t going to help anyone, and people do make mistakes sometimes. What mattered more was that he recognized his mistake and was
honest about it.

How did it affect your relationship?
After that incident, our friendship became more mature. We were both more careful with each other’s feelings, and I think it even strengthened our bond in the long run. We learned to set clearer boundaries and communicate more openly.

Why is forgiveness important?
I believe forgiveness is crucial because it allows us to move forward. Holding grudges only creates distance and negativity. When we forgive, we free ourselves from that burden and give the relationship a second chance. It also helps us grow emotionally and understand others better.
