7️⃣.5️⃣ - DOUBLE QUESTION

It is undeniable that advertising has become a significant tool to keep businesses running. Unfortunately, this comes at the expense of consumers that are bombarded with an excessive amount of ads every day. While consumers are not influenced as assumed, introducing laws to make companies be transparent could be an effective protection.

It has been suggested that although advertising is still a great marketing tactic, its impact has definitely faded compared to, say, five years ago. It is common knowledge that companies pay competitive salaries to those who work in the marketing department because they know how to manipulate people into purchasing their products. However, individuals have learnt not to trust everything that is advertised. It is true that celebrity endorsements tend to be still efficient, but not like before, which can be seen in our everyday life, where people seem to do some research or, at least, ask others prior to deciding to buy a particular item or not and it is mainly because advertisers often lie or exaggerate the benefits of their stuff.

On the flip side, many others have claimed that there is still a need for government’s involvement to prevent dishonesty. In other words, there might be people who unquestioningly or unintentionally choose to buy what they see on adverts. The primary reason for this boils down to the fact that we do not hear about the probable downsides of any goods being advertised. Provided that government officials opt to make it compulsory to disclose the side effects or possible dangers to people and especially to their health, the influence will surely decrease. Case in point, we could start with the drug companies, energy drinks and political campaigns and demand transparency, which will be a game changer, since some people do not buy into their lies claimed to be all perfect, but those who do might open their eyes, as well.

It is said that it is almost impossible to ignore ads since they have become increasingly common. Whereas the effect advertisements have on consumers is believed to have diminished, some regulations from the government to hold companies accountable would be a better help.

Task 2️⃣

It is undeniable that competition among businesses is intense. And this is leading many small ones to shut down, making way for more large companies. While there are some drawbacks, the benefits of this trend are far superior.

It has bees suggested that the primary disadvantages of this impact the livelihood of middle-income families as well as the customer service negatively. It is not a secret that most small businesses running out of business means the entire family will lose their financial freedom and work for somebody else for much less salary. In addition, small local shops or restaurants always strive to offer better customer service and discounted prices to attract more clients, which will not be the case with already established companies as they do not feel they ought to go out of their way to appeal to customers because they do not face a lot of competition.

On the flip side, many others have claimed that the advantages, such as more job openings and wide range of choices for consumers, are more worthwhile. In other words, big multinational companies operate differently, ergo has many positions to fill, which creates many job opportunities for unemployed locals as opposed to smaller ones that need significantly fewer employees. On top of that, bigger the store or the restaurant is, the more options they can offer so, individuals that have money and want to spend it wisely can choose from various alternatives, hence be able to find what they actually want. These both factors easily result in more financially stable and happy people in local neighbourhoods.

It is said that the increase in the number of large companies is the byproduct of the disappearance of small ones. It can be concluded that despite some demerits, the merits of this are much greater.
