People are very materialistic in Uzbekistan, including myself but not too much. People celebrate their and family members' birthdays in restaurants and sometimes it is like wedding ceremony, many people are invited to this. They prevent to make birthday person special, but I think it's not like that, it's they want to show how powerful they are or they can organize big birthdays. Instead they can have a small birthday party. Maybe I'm wrong. You can say that it's your mother's birthday and she deserves such birthday party. Yes, you're right somehow.
In this point, I have a question: "Do our mothers want to celebrate like that?" I think no. Every elderly Uzbek people know what extravagance is and they know they will be questioned in front of Him. This is because extravagance is prohibited.
Instead, donating in the name of our mothers is a good choice. Rather than spending it lavishly on strangers, one will digest it and forget it. Good deeds are rewarded in both worlds.
When Behbudiy spoke about Uzbek weddings 100 years ago, he meant all the ceremonies, and he was right. Unfortunately, we are having a lavish wedding ourselves, thinking that Behbudiy was right.
What hypocrites we are!
