In today’s world, some people think that money can buy happiness, while others simply posit exactly the opposite, arguing over the fact that all the rich are not happy. Discuss both views and give your opinion.



Indeed everyone seeks out personal contentment out of their lives. While certain people believe happiness is irrevocably linked to financial well-being, some argue one doesn’t necessarily have to be rich to be content. Both views are discussed and my personal opinion is also provided in the subsequent paragraphs.


To begin with, money undeniably opens up many channels, which are highly correlated with personal satisfaction; one of which is opportunities for experiences and fulfilment. Travel, hobbies, and engaging in cultural and recreational activities are often facilitated by financial resources. These experiences not only create cherished memories, but also enhance personal growth and fulfilment. Experiencing new cultures, learning new skills, and participating in exciting adventures can significantly contribute to a person’s overall sense of happiness and well-being. Hence, those who lack financial stability may indeed struggle to pursue happiness, just because those aforementioned activities entail money.


Nevertheless, not every rich person cherishes life as much as they want to due to number of reasons. While money has the potential to enhance certain aspects of happiness, it is important to acknowledge caveats and complexities associated with this relationship. The pursuit of material possessions and excessive wealth can lead to a cycle of desire that doesn’t result in lasting happiness. To be more precise, as soon as person gets used to comfort and facilities available to him, he may start seeking better options, resulting in dissatisfaction in the long term. The best example in point would be Robin Williams. Though he was a multi-millionaire, he committed suicide at the age of 63 just because he was dissatisfied with his life.


In conclusion, even though money can be used to enhance experiences and build connections, I personally believe that its role must be approached with mind-fullness and broader understanding of complexities involved.
