Lesson 7.2 📝

Past continuous (I was doing)

study 📖 this example situation:

Yesterday Tom and Jim played tennis.🎾 They began at 10 o’clock and finished at 11 o’clock.
• Kecha Tom bilan Jim tennis o’ynashdi. Ular tennisni soat 10da boshlashdi va 11da tugatishdi.

• What were they doing at 10.30?
They were playing tennis (at 10.30).

Ular 10.30da nima qilishayotgan edi?
• Ular tennis o’ynashayotgan edi.

🔰 They were playingmeans that they were in the middle of playing tennis. They had started playing but they hadn’t finished.
————————————
🔰 ‘Ular tennis o’ynashayotgan edi’ ular tennis o’ynashning o’rtasida bo’lganliklarini anglatadi. Ular tennis o’ynashni boshlashgan lekin tugatishmagan.

🔺This is the past continuous tense:

I / he / she + was + playing
we / they / you + were + playing

🔰 we use the past continuous to say that someone was in the middle of doing something at a certain time. The action or situation had already started before this time but hadn’t finished.
————————————
🔰 biz “present continuous”ni birortasi biror ish qilishning o’rtasida bo’lganligini aytish uchun ishlatamiz. Ish harakat yoki holat allaqachon boshlangan va hali tugamagan bo’ladi.

Misollar 📋 Examples:

This time last year I was living in Brazil. 🇧🇷
O’tgan yili shu paytda Braziliyada yashayotgan edim.

What were you doing at 10 o’clock last night?
Kecha kechki payt 10.00da nima qilayotgan eding?

Lesson 7 📝

Will (1)

※ We use will (‘ll) when we decide to do something at the time of speaking:
※ Biz gapirayotgan paytimizning o’zida qaror qabul qilganimizda "will"ni ishlatamiz:

Misollar 📋 Examples:

• Oh, I have left the door 🚪open. I will go and shut it.
• Voy, eshikni ochiq qoldiripman. Hozir boraman va eshikni yopaman.

• “What would you like to drink?”🍸 🍷 🥤”I will have a lemonade, please.”
• “Nima ichishni xohlaysiz?” “Bitta limonad, iltimos.”

❗️You cannot use the present simple (I do) in these sentences.
❗️Siz ushbu gaplarda hozirgi oddiy zamonni ishlata olmaysiz.

• I’ll go and shut it. (NOT “I go and shut it”❌)

※ Do not use ❌ will to say what to say what someone has already decided to do or arranged to do
“Will”ni allaqachon rejalashtirilgan va kelishilgan ish harakatlar uchun ishlatmang

Masalan 📋 For example:

• I cannot meet you tomorrow because my parents 👴🏻👵🏻 are coming to see me. (NOT ❌“my parents will come”)
• Sen bilan ertaga ko’risha olmayman, chunki ota-onam meni ko’rgani kelishyapti

※ The negative of will is will not or won’t:
“Will”ning inkor shakli “will not” yoki “won’t”:

• “I’m afraid Mr Salimov can’t see you until 4 o’clock.”
“Oh, in that case I won’t wait.”
🤦🏻‍♂
• “Qo’rqamanki, janob Salimov sizni soat 4gacha qabul qila olmaydi.”
Unday bo’lsa kutmayman.”

※ We often use I think I’ll ... or I don’t think I’ll ... when we decide to do something:

I think I will stay at home 🏠this evening
• Menimcha, bugun kechki payt uyda qolaman

※ we often use will in these situations:
※ biz odatda "will"ni ushbu holatlarda ishlatamiz:

>> offering to do something:
>> biror narsani taklif qilishda:

• That bag 🧳 looks heavy. I will help you with it🙋🏻‍♂
• Anavi sumka og'ir ko'rinadi. Sizga yordamlashvoraman

>> agreeing or refusing to do something:
>> biror narsa qilishga rozi bo'lmoq yoki bosh tortmoq:

• I have asked Kozim to help me but he won't (or will not)🤷🏻‍♂
• Kozimdan yordam so'ragandim, lekin u yordam berishdan bosh tortdi

>> promising to do something:
>> biror narsa qilishga va'da berayotganda:

• I promise I will phone you as soon as I arrive📲
• Va'da beraman, senga qaytishim bilan telefon qilaman

>> asking someone to do something (Will you):
>> birortasidan biror narsa qilishni so'rashda:

• Will you shut the door, please?🚪
• Eshikni yopib yubora olmaysizmi, iltimos?
