Background noise

Even though SAT reading passages are like an encyclopedia -- there were millions of passages about background noise and its effects -- I experienced, and realized, its effect first-hand quite recently.

Although described in a negative light, background noise can be a tool, if manipulated. For instance, you can deal with tough work cheerfully if cheerful music is on. Or, you can improve your sleep by turning on white/pink noise.

Next time, when you read about background noise, do NOT necessarily associate it with noise pollution.

While writing this post, I am listening to a russian song (after all, it is turns out to be my mother tongue 😅).
