In recent years, there has been a rise in the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sports. What are the consequences of doping for athletes? What measures should be taken to combat this issue?

Recently, there has been an increase in the usage of substances that help people improve performance in sports. The effects of this are quite tragic because of athletes’ tarnished reputation and potential health outcomes, too. To prevent cases of cheating, there should be universal rules, anti-doping organizations and strict punishments.

When an athlete decides to take PEDs, they are willingly cheating to be stronger, faster or more agile. This is a shortcut they are taking to compete with better competition. However, when caught, these athletes instantly lose their reputation and may have their titles stripped. A case in point is Lance Armstrong, a former Tour de France champion who is now banned for life. Paul Pogba, a famous football player, is another example of a case where athletes’ image is ruined instantly, although he managed to prove his innocence. Apart from reputation, one’s health could be a major concern. Steroid use, for instance, could cause people to suffer from cardiovascular complications or be depressed when withdrawing from it.

To make sure athletes do not cheat, there has to be universal guidelines that sportspeople must follow from a young age. These rules could be taught in academies or even promoted in social media to increase people’s general awareness. The other measure is surely severe punishments for the confirmed use of PEDs. Multiple-year bans and titles taken away are just some of the punishments that should be used. By making these cases public, anti-doping organizations could also teach young athletes a lesson. As for these organizations, to work effectively, they should collaborate with local sports organizations and conduct educational events on a regular basis.

In conclusion, it is evident that there are devastating consequences associated with the use of performance-enhancing drugs. The prevention of their use is possible through education and punitive measures.

This essay might not seem that valuable until you look at all the collocations used in it.

Here's a file where I categorized collocations from that essay, with definitions attached as well.

Sarvinoz, a writing course participant, sent this result today. Her previous writing score was a 6.5 and she now has a 7.5 💥

However, she is confident enough to apply for the EoR since she wrote over 600 words for Task 2, meaning she is absolutely confident in TR.

I support her decision based on what she wrote during the course, so let’s see what happens. A 0.5 increase would mean the overall score goes up to 8.5, too.

Congratulations to Sarvinoz one more time, but the story doesn’t end here yet.

Shopping is the favourite pastime for most of the young people. Why do you think that? Do you think they should be encouraged to do some other useful activities?

Shopping is now the most preferable hobby among the majority of young people. There is a range of reasons for this, with materialism and peer influence being the key factors. Although shopping can be an enjoyable pastime, it should not be the main hobby of the younger generation, as other activities such as those related to health and skill development are likely to be more beneficial.

Materialism, a tendency to value material possessions over moral and ethical values, has been affecting youth in recent years. Because of this, young people purchase more goods and services, increasing consumerism as a whole. What typically influences young individuals is social media, platforms where celebrities and digital marketing can persuade them to buy more, making shopping desirable. Speaking of celebrities, they normally popularize the latest fashion items and state-of-the-art technology, inspiring their younger audience to acquire similar products.

Famous people are not the only individuals encouraging the growth of consumerism. Instead, peers can often convince one another to make a purchase, whether it is planned or unplanned. Shopping malls of the contemporary time are huge and attract young people, making them social hubs, where peers prefer to spend their free time. What is important to mention is the variety of facilities in malls. It is no longer just shops, but cafes, playgrounds and movie theatres as well, providing both food and entertainment to their customers.

Admittedly, shopping has become people’s favourite since it provides the level of satisfaction that many other hobbies may not easily guarantee. As mentioned above, shopping malls have become more sophisticated, offering people a number of ways to spend quality time. However, despite this value, people should not be too obsessed with shopping as there are several other beneficial activities that can be more advantageous for young individuals’ future.

Sports activities, reading books or attending extracurricular courses should all be more prioritized among the youth. The reason for this assertion is simple. All of the mentioned pastimes are objectively critical in their own ways. Sports can help the young develop physically while reading books helps them become more intelligent. As for extracurricular classes, they can teach hard and soft skills that are significant for teenagers' and young adults’ job prospects. In other words, shopping is a source of pleasure, while these other activities are more important for a person’s development.

In summary, the increasing impact of materialism and peer pressure made more young people choose shopping as their favourite hobby. Even though this gives them pleasure, it cannot compare to the benefits obtained by immersion into other hobbies such as sports, reading, and studying new skills.

I was in the IDP office today, and I witnessed one of the most heartbreaking scenes.

A guy came with his mom to take the IELTS test. They were just about to enter the exam area—to go through the final registration, take a picture, and begin the test—when they suddenly realized something terrible: he had forgotten his passport.

Not the mother. The son. He had forgotten his passport.

An IDP employee explained that it’s absolutely impossible to take the test without proper identification. They didn’t have enough time to go back home and return with the ID.

And just those five minutes—those short, painful moments of hopelessness and motherly frustration—were enough to make me realize one more time how important it is to double-check everything.

That passport was not just a piece of paper today; for them, it meant everything. It meant the opportunity they had prepared for. And he messed it up.

I can’t imagine what he’s feeling right now. I can’t imagine what she feels, or how big of an argument they must have had when they went home.

Because it’s not just a passport—it’s $200 gone. And not everyone can afford $200 for an IELTS test. Maybe it was hard-earned money. Maybe they had saved for months.

And the test didn’t even happen.

Just heartbreaking.

Please, don’t forget your passport.

Around 100 people contacted me to sign up for the 8+ course and I have been answering their questions for several hours now. I also figured out that many of them will need such a course later (because of retaking IELTS in August and September).

Demand for advanced courses seems to be higher than expected. I have around 50 chats to answer now, so those who did not get a reply, please wait. We will choose the most suitable option for you.

A few months ago, I wanted to open an 8+ course but could not do it because the demand for standard and 7+ courses was more evident. However, over the past few weeks, many students said they would benefit from a full 8+ course. While I think such courses are very difficult to conduct, I found a few solutions, which means I will open an advanced online 8+ course. One of the best things I thought of is to make prospective students pass a full CDI mock test before starting the course, so that I see that their level is suitable.

I want to include individual speaking mock tests in this course, a refund policy, and register many of the students myself, meaning I will provide exam consultations. This should be an interesting offer and I will soon make a full post about this course. Obviously, it will be limited to a certain number of people.

Stay tuned.

One is the part of the article and the other is a reading passage. The article was released in 2016, way earlier than Cambridge 17.

Maybe this helps understand where Cambridge passages are from. And if this post doesn’t convince you to read articles, I don’t know what else could.

WANT TO ‘PREDICT’ YOUR READING? READ ARTICLES ❗️

It’s still crazy to me that many IELTS students don’t read articles. That is singlehandedly the best thing they can do, especially when the choice of a source is relevant and the article is actually analyzed. I can mention numerous benefits of reading articles, but to make this post more concise and inspirational, I will just show you an article that you probably never read but will be very familiar with.
