People are increasingly consuming organic food.
Why has this trend emerged?
Do you think organic food is worth the higher price?
More and more people choose to eat organic food these days. This phenomenon is driven by a series of recent trends, and I believe this type of food offers a good value for money even if it is less affordable.
One of the main reasons why people prefer to eat organic these days is the rise in individual income levels. Thanks to sustained economic prosperity in many countries around the globe, people can now afford to choose from organic food, which used to be accessible only to the affluent few. The trend towards consuming organic food is also closely associated with growing public awareness of environmental issues caused by modern farming practices such as excessive use of chemicals and fertilizers, causing soil degradation and water contamination. People believe they can do their part to counter these issues by opting out of mass-produced food items. Last but not least, social media has prompted a move toward eating organic for fitness and vitality. Organic food now receives a great deal of publicity because of bodybuilders and dieticians on social media making vlogs and blog posts about its benefits.
I believe the relatively high price of organic food is well-justified. Growing produce such as fruit and vegetables and other farm products organically is prohibitively expensive due to the labor and production costs involved. This type of food takes longer to grow without chemicals and synthetic fertilizers and requires labor-intensive care, adding to its retail price. Unless customers are willing to pay a premium, it is not financially viable for farmers to forsake their lucrative modern mass cultivation practices in favor of old ones. These costs are further increased by additional transportation and storage expenses, as organic food requires special conditions to maintain its quality.
In conclusion, while the reasons why a growing number of people prefer organic food range from rising income levels to environmental concerns, I consider that it is worth paying extra to enjoy chemical-free food, given high production costs.
