My comment on this:

The only reason I retook IELTS is I had an ESL certificate requirement for something I was applying to. My previous certificate already expired at that point so I needed to take it again.

What’s funny is I booked only about 5 days before the test. I didn’t prepare almost at all and was ready for any score because I just needed 7+ and I was confident I would get it. So I just went in and took it without much stress or expectation.

Also, I knew if I would try to get a band 9, I would have to prepare for at least a couple of weeks. So this was not a “band 9” round because, again, I had to take it urgently.

Maybe I’ll take it again to make it 9.0. We shall see :)

P.S. If you’d like any specifics of the test, feel free to drop them in the comments. I will do my best to answer them in detail.

On the same note, avoid any form of backbiting/gossiping because:

1) It’s haram and for a reason. You risk your own reputation by participating in a conversation whose subject would find offensive (even if you’re right).

2) It also makes your partner in the gossip start to like you less. They’ll be worried you’d do the same when they’re not around. This happens especially when you’re the one subtly forcing them to gossip with you.

3) There are a thousand more productive uses of your time most important of which is improving yourself (towards the point that you yourself don’t deserve to be backbitten :)

Also, learning any language that is from the same language family of the language you already speak (English → German, or even better German → English) is substantially easier than learning a foreign language from a completely different language family.

One thing I noticed is that one of the best ways to reinforce and review a foreign language you are somewhat good at is learning another foreign language using that. For example, learning German in English as a native Uzbek speaker.

But the thing is that you need to be somewhat proficient in English before you learn German through it. Otherwise, it's just a big mess of half-understood concepts.
