🔰Writing task 2 in Uzbekistan — 21.01.2021

🔸Some people think that in order to solve transport problems, governments should provide adult citizens with free bicycles.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The number of cars on the roads is increasing every day. Traffic and transportation issues are a growing concern in every major city. Many people believe that in order to solve traffic and transportation woes young people should be provided free bicycles by governments. I strongly agree with this statement, because this is not only a solution for traffic jams but also it is beneficial for people’ health and finance.

Due to the fact, the number of cars on roads has been increased recent years compared to past a decade. This results in traffic, environmental problems growing up. The most alternative solution government should take is free bicycles for the young who can ride confidently. In other words, when free bicycles are available on streets, a number of adults who prefer to ride bikes than other transportations such as privet cars and buses in order to economize their money will dramatically increase. This in turn leads to a significant decrease of a number of cars, environmental diseases. To illustrate China as an example, in 2012, in Wuhan and Hangzhou, with around 90,000 and 60,000 bikes respectively were available to use freely for public. In that time, both of these cities witnessed decline of traffic congestions and air pollution.

Another benefit of bicycles is that when riding bikes widely helps to protect people from serious diseases such as obesity, heart disease, cancer, mental illness, diabetes and arthritis. Riding bicycle regularly is one of the best ways to reduce people’s risk of health problems associated with a sedentary lifestyle. That is to say, cycling is a good way to control or reduce weight, as it raises your metabolic rate, builds muscle and burns body fat. Moreover, cycling strengthens your heart muscles, lowers resting pulse and reduces blood fat levels. For example, a Danish study conducted over 14 years with 30,000 people aged 20 to 93 years found that regular cycling protected people from heart disease.

In conclusion, to prevent transport problems, the government in major cities should supply free bicycles for adults. I agree completely with the opinion because of not only transport problems’ solution but also health and financial benefits.

🖊 Cycling is more environmentally friendly than other forms of transport. Why is it not popular in many places? And how to increase its popularity?

Although riding a bicycle is clearly a better way to protect the environment than using other types of vehicles, not many people around the world prefer this means of transport. There are several causes of this unpopularity, and some solutions could be proposed to promote the usage of bicycles.

To begin with, there are several reasons why few people use bicycles to travel on a regular basis. Firstly, since modern life is getting much busier than in the past, individuals nowadays want to spend as little time on transport as possible. Therefore, they prefer to use other types of vehicles such as motorbikes or cars which would take less time. Secondly, cycling is more physically demanding than riding a motorbike or driving a car. This tends to discourage people from choosing this method, especially on a hot and sunny day or when they have to travel a long distance.

Several actions can be taken to increase the popularity of bicycles. The first solution would be to make it more costly to own a motorbike or a car. This can be done by increasing the price of petrol or raising tax on these vehicles. As a result, more people would choose bicycles as their primary means of transport. Additionally, more lanes should be built to serve only cyclists, which would make it much faster to travel with bicycles. The final solution is to launch campaigns to raise citizens’ awareness of the harmful effects of motorbikes and cars on the environment, and this could encourage people to cycle more often.

In conclusion, there are some reasons why bicycles are becoming less common in today’s world, and solutions should be produced early to promote this environmentally friendly means of transport.

3 secrets to IELTS Band 8 Reading

🔘Everything you need to answer the question you will find in the question! (Secret 1)

What I mean by this is that if you make the question your main focus you will find it easier to locate the answer in the text. Often I see students underlining multiple words and phrases in the text before they have even looked at the question and I always ask them why they do this? Unless you know what to look for then spending too much time on the text is wasting precious minutes.

🔘Don’t spend more than 1 minute on any one question (Secret 2)

I say this over and over to students but most of them find it hard to accept. The truth is that you have 60 minutes to do 40 questions so you cannot afford to waste time on one question. The questions (NOT the passage) will be trickier in passage three so you may need more time. So here is a typical scenario – you get stuck on question 6 you spend a few minutes, you are determined to find the answer – after all it’s only question 6 – you arrive at passage 3 your time runs out at question 32 you have to guess the rest – sound familiar? The fact is that now your score will be out of 32 so unless you get 100% correct there is only a slim chance you can reach your band 7 – it is simple mathematics. ‘It’s only question 6’ is a good reason to leave it, move on and come back later. If you adopt and practise this technique you will find that you have plenty of time.

🔘Understand the difference between skimming and scanning and get good at these skills (Secret 3)

You will find these words in every blog post, every website and every course book about IELTS reading. Do you know the difference? Can you use the techniques effectively to get the right answers? Skimming is reading quickly to get an overview of the text – you need this skill to get a general idea of the topic and also in questions like headings. Scanning is a skill used to find specific key words which you can then analyse more carefully to get your answer. You need to develop both skills in order to manage your time well and increase your score.

🔰IELTS Speaking Test Part 3

🔸What is the difference between the role of a teacher and a parent in the education of children?

Well, primarily, I think parents are more responsible for imparting values and ethics to their children and teachers at school are given the task of equipping children with academic skills. You could also say that parent’s educate more by example, how they do things and react to things whereas teachers teach children how to do things based on a curriculum designed by educational experts, it’s not such a personal experience.

🔸What suggestions would you give to teachers to improve education?

I know when I was at school some of the subjects seemed very uninteresting to us as students. I think maybe teachers need to look at how they relate the subject matter to the real world or the student’s experience of the real world. I know they are now using more technology in schools than before and this is a good thing. In general, students have to see that something is relevant, or at least interesting, so if teachers can make it obvious why it’s important to learn something then maybe students will be more interested.

🔸What is the best way to educate children in your opinion?

Children need to be taught real skills, things which will be relevant in their future life. They need to learn what will be needed by society in the future. Most children seem to learn quicker by doing things than listening to teachers talking about something. If children can be involved in a variety of activities that help develop the skills they need then I think they will learn successfully.

🔸How can we help children realise their talents?

The first thing is to identify those talents. That is not an easy thing to do in many cases. It’s then a case of making sure that children receive support and the resources to explore and develop their talent to the fullest. Schools need to be able to give children access to equipment, resources or facilities that they may not have in the home environment or that their parents cannot provide.

🔸Does the government provide enough support to education in your view?

They can always provide more… but it’s not the quantity so much as the quality of support they provide. It must be relevant and focused on the key areas of education. Also, it should be well planned and provide the best possible resources and facilities for children to grow and develop their academic and life skills.

IELTS Listening: multiple choice keywords

The "keyword" idea is relevant to the listening test as well as the reading test. For example, try the question below and tell us(in the comments section) which keywords gave you the answers.

Question:

Which TWO things can make the job of kitchen assistant stressful?
A  They have to follow orders immediately
B  The kitchen gets very hot
C  They may not be able to take a break
D  They have to do overtime
E  The work is physically demanding

Part of the recording:

Now you may have heard that this can be a stressful job, and I have to say that can be true. You'll be working an eight-hour day for the first week, though you'll have the chance to do overtime after that as well if you want to. But however long the hours are, you'll get a break in the middle. What you will find is that you're on your feet all day long, lifting and carrying, so if you're not fit now you soon will be! You'll find you don't have much chance to take it easy - when someone tells you to do something, you need to do it straightaway - but at least we do have a very efficient air conditioning system compared with some kitchens.

🔰NEW ESSAY TOPIC

🔸Scientists believe that the world is in danger due to environmental changes. Some people say that personal lifestyle changes should be made to reduce the damage to environment, while others think that the government should do something to help. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

👏👏👏Sample Band 8 Essay

Environmental problems are clearly something that is often discussed in today’s world. One part of the society claims that individuals should change their habits and lifestyle to improve the ecological situation. Others, on the other hand, believe that this issue should be solved on the governmental level. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument and my perspective will be offered.

It is hard to deny that human kind is responsible for the current environmental situation, and it seems impossible to achieve any noticeable result in this field without the participation of vast majority of individuals. For instance, a simple lifestyle change such as introducing the separation of household rubbish can make recycling projects more convenient and efficient. Moreover, consumers can reduce their usage of plastic items and, in turn, less plastic waste will contaminate the environment.

However, many people still feel that the government has more tools to prevent environmental changes. One option that the authorities have is to discourage citizens from using personal vehicles by charging high taxes and additional fees. Moreover, politicians usually have access to resources to educate people about environmental problems and promote the most important ecological projects on all levels, ranging from special courses at schools to TV shows and websites related to this topic. Furthermore, it is a key responsibility of the government to protect the environment by spending state funds on research and modern equipment. Countries where legislation protects the ecology, for example Norway, have achieved visible results and overcame most environmental problems.

In conclusion, I believe that a combined approach will work best to prevent or reverse environmental changes. A contribution of every individual is just as important as the intervention from the government in order to fix existing issues and save our planet for future generations.
