The most underrated and neglected part of the writing process in IELTS must be polishing your work. Editing your essays and making any necessary corrections to them helps not only to improve that particular essay (and hence your mark) but it will also allow you to identify your weaknesses and work on them. This way, you can avoid most of your mistakes in your future essays. Here are some areas of grammar and vocabulary that most students might have problems with:
- tenses
- subject-verb agreement (The importance of books is/are?)
- articles (yes, these annoying articles)
- prepositions (waiting someone?)
- spelling (goverment, loose/lose)
- collocation (make/do an effort)
For me, articles and prepositions are the most challenging perhaps because logic doesn’t always do the trick - you simply need to memorize certain things or understand that the sentence “feels” wrong without that article.
Which one do you struggle with the most?
