READING 9.0:
How I Achieved It📚
Many people think that to get a 9.0 in IELTS Reading, you have to sacrifice sleep and grind through endless passages late into the night. But that’s a misconception. The truth is, decent sleep is crucial to avoid underperforming. That’s what worked for me.
Back in October, I set a clear goal: to improve my reading score as much as possible. I didn’t want to depend too much on my writing and speaking scores.
I planned to make listening and reading my strengths and aimed for a perfect 9.0 in both. With two months ahead, I decided to take the test in December. My approach? Focused consistency. Instead of doing three passages or full tests daily, I limited myself to just one or two passages a day, depending on my energy and focus.
How a 9.0?The answer lies in reading, learning new words, and analyzing mistakes.
Here’s exactly what I did:
1. Practice Under Timed Conditions
Always complete passages with a timer. This trains you to handle stress and stay focused under exam pressure.
2. Avoid Using a Dictionary While Reading
When working on a passage, don’t interrupt your flow by looking up words. Once you’re done, analyze your mistakes and note down new words in a notebook. I still have mine, and it’s nearly full of vocabulary.
3. Mock Yourself Regularly
Develop a habit of testing yourself every weekend. This keeps you aware of your progress and builds confidence.
4. Stay Self-Motivated
I registered for the test in November. A few days later, I took my self-mock test and scored 39 out of 40 in reading. That success gave me the motivation to push even harder, proving to myself that a 9.0 was feasible.
By November, I felt unstoppable. My reading scores consistently stayed above 37, even though I was practicing passage by passage, day by day.
It was a short yet focused journey, and it proved that with a clear goal and determination, you can do whatever
Enjoy the journey, as the process can often be more rewarding than the results. I was so focused on learning English that every time I read a passage, I wanted to explore more and discover something new. This constant curiosity made learning exciting and enjoyable.
