The “Dead Horse Theory” is a satirical metaphor that illustrates how some individuals, institutions, or nations handle obvious, unsolvable problems. Instead of accepting reality, they cling to justifying their actions.

The core idea is simple: if you realize you’re riding a dead horse, the most sensible thing to do is dismount and move on.

However, in practice, the opposite often happens. Instead of abandoning the dead horse, people take actions such as:

• Buying a new saddle for the horse.
• Improving the horse’s diet, despite it being dead.
• Changing the rider instead of addressing the real problem.
• Firing the horse caretaker and hiring someone new, hoping for a different outcome.
• Holding meetings to discuss ways to increase the dead horse’s speed.
• Creating committees or task forces to analyze the dead horse problem from every angle. These groups work for months, compile reports, and ultimately conclude the obvious: the horse is dead.
• Justifying efforts by comparing the horse to other similarly dead horses, concluding that the issue was a lack of training.
• Proposing training programs for the horse, which means increasing the budget.
• Redefining the concept of “dead” to convince themselves the horse still has potential.

The Lesson:

This theory highlights how many people and organizations prefer to deny reality, wasting time, resources, and effort on ineffective solutions instead of acknowledging the problem from the start and making smarter, more effective decisions.

What are your thoughts about this theory?

The Spring Starts with One More High Score – 8.0 at Just 15 Years Old

Usually, when a candidate achieves a high score, we tend to tell a long story about how they accomplished it.

This time, however, the post will focus on the worst mistake made during IELTS preparation—so others can avoid it. Fayyozjon Ravshanov (a student of Kamrambek Isoev) shares his experience:

*“During my progress tests and regular pretesting sessions, I scored 7.5-8.5. Once, I decided to take a free MOCK test at a no-name place, thinking the standards would be the same. But I ended up scoring only 6.5 (probably because they underscore other students). I was really demotivated and didn’t know what to do.

Then, my teacher Kamrambek Isoev told me, ‘A MOCK test is like a diagnostic test—just like a blood test. It helps you understand your strengths and weaknesses.’ That’s why Innovative Centre purchases and receives materials either from IELTS Trial or Testbank, both from Cambridge English, the official author of the IELTS exam.

That makes it reliable—unlike the test I took in a random classroom with some kids, no trained invigilator, and a distorted audio recording. That setup gave me a misleading view of my performance.

The moment I sat for the real IELTS exam, I realized how right my mentor Kamrambek Isoev was. The IELTS MOCK test at Innovative Centre was 98% the same as the actual IELTS exam.

So, if someone asks me, ‘What should I do during my IELTS preparation?’ the obvious answer is: take MOCK tests—but only with professionals. Don’t fall for cheap ads like free MOCK tests—they will only hurt you.”*

The importance of stupidity in scientific research 😁
In this interesting article, Dr. Schwartz argues for the importance of feeling stupid in scientific research "If we don't feel stupid, it means we're not really trying."

IELTS 7.0 (C1) in His Early 13

Imagine you are an English Language Teacher at any school, and you achieve IELTS 7.0—you will automatically qualify for a 50% salary bonus.

Or, if you are a university student, your achievement will be all over their media. In some places, there might even be a documentary about your success, with red carpets and fanfares.

Can someone who just turned 13 get IELTS 7.0 and be on par with teachers and 17-18-year-old students who struggle to achieve 6.0 or 6.5? As long as you study at Innovative Centre, it is more than possible—not just to achieve IELTS 7.0, but to go beyond and reach your full potential.

Azizbek Eshimov followed the path of his teacher Kamrambek, who also scored 7.0 at the age of 13. The key to his success, as he says, was using authentic resources by MM Publications—not the ones with changed covers and copyright-infringed books, but original sources, along with reliable pretesting materials by Cambridge English.

IDP Education has issued an interim financial report for the half-year ended December 31, 2024.

Worldwide, revenue from English language testing (IELTS) is down 22% compared to the same period last year. Volume is down 24%.

In the competitive market of India,  revenue from English language testing is down 55%.  Outside of India, revenue is up 2%.

In total, the IELTS was taken via IDP 683,708 times in the half-year.

The decline in India is attributed to “a series of regulatory changes (e.g. cap on international student numbers, removal of SDS route into Canada), ongoing visa approval and processing issues, and increased competition.”

Overall, IDP’s revenue is down 18% compared to last year.

IDP’s share price is down about 14% in early trading.
