Affect
This word is normally used as a verb and it means "to have an effect on". This word is directly followed by an object without any prepositions. Just in case you weren't paying attention, I repeat - do not use prepositions (including "on") after this verb.
- Sport can positively effect on your health. ❌
- Sport can positively affect your health. ✅
Effect
This word is almost exclusively used as a noun and it means "a result of an action or other cause". When used with an object, this word is followed by a preposition, usually "on".
- The chemotherapy has had a lasting affect to me.❌
- The chemotherapy has had a lasting effect on me.✅
- It has a significant affect on people's perception of success. ❌
- It has a significant effect on people's perception of success. ✅
