The bar chart compares employment levels across five different types of work on one Australian region in 2001 and 2008. Overall, the number of workers in sales dwarfed that of others, and while there were increases in most sectors, some saw decreases.
In 2001, sales dominated the job market, with some 150,000 people employed in this sector. This figure then rose to a staggering 160,000 in 2008, continuing to top the chart / hold the top spot / lead the pack. At the bottom end of the spectrum was farming, an area of work that attracted the fewest people. It started at five times as low as sales (30,000) before declining even further in 2008 (to a mere 20,000 workers).
The remaining three categories stood at around the same level. Worker numbers in computing increased significantly from about 60,000 to 80,000 in 2008. Nursing followed this trend, albeit to a lower degree, rising by approximately 2,000. In contrast, there was a decrease in accounting. Despite boasting a slightly higher figure initially, at above the 60,000 mark, it then fell in 2008.
