It is undeniable that virtually every single person wants to stay up-to- date about what happens both locally and globally. However, whether it is more convenient to learn about news from newspapers or other media platforms is up for debate, as both methods have their proponents. In this essay, I will discuss why the reliability of the former way appeals to some, but why the accessibility of the latter one is cherished by some others before presenting my personal take on the matter.
It has been suggested that the primary reason why some people prefer to read news from newspapers boils down to newspapers’ reputation to be trustworthy. In other words, other forms of broadcasting news cannot be unquestioningly trusted because it is extremely challenging to separate real news from the fake one. But, newspaper readers do not need to worry about this, because the news that makes it to the newspaper goes through a lot of inspection before being approved. The fact that people still get their major news from the magazines, such as The Daily Mail, The Washington Post and The New York Times to name, but a few, is the clear indicator of why the general public still prefers reliability over convenience that other ways may offer.
On the flip side, many others have claimed that they opt for more contemporary methods due to how easily and quickly they can be accessed. It is common knowleage that it is in the human nature to want to be aware of everything that is taking place around them and there is no better way to entertain that desire than doing it through other media, namely the Internet. Thanks to the widespread use of technological devices and the internet websites, people now can find out about anything by just few chicks in no time, which has satisfied people’s urge to read news. For them, it is more important to learn about the news first, regardless of the sources' reputation and it can be the ideal example to explain why YouTube, Twitter and Facebook have grown their dominance and are widely used by everyone who chooses to share and read news.
It is said that newspapers are considered to be the best way to get news, while other media is hailed for its effectiveness. In this essay, I discussed both views in-depth with relevant examples. Personally, I believe both methods have their benefits and drawbacks. Hence, it ought to be up to what people are after, is it transparency or convenience?
