The travel and tourism industry plays a vital role in the global economy, contributing significantly to employment and GDP in many countries. It not only provides millions of jobs in sectors such as hospitality, transportation, and entertainment but also boosts small businesses and local artisans by attracting international visitors. A case in point is Samarkand - one of the most historic sites in my country, Uzbekistan - where a substantial number of people rely primarily rely on selling hand-made crafts to foreign visitors as a main source of their income. That is to say it is tourism that is helping them to make ends meet.
